In these 64 pages Jim Elliff carefully unpacks the nature of faith and repentance in real-world color. This is no ivory-tower doctrinal treatise, but a warm-hearted attempt to help people to understand, identify, and possess biblical faith and repentance. The author has enough gut-level experience in the ministry to point out common misconceptions and to help the reader to honestly come to the place of true repentance and living faith in Jesus Christ so that they might be saved.
The reader is led with the same integrity and conversational tone as in his other book, Pursuing God. Beginning with the need for a God-wrought faith, then moving on to the nature of faith as placed in Christ, as reasonable, and as accompanied by repentance. Next considered is the initial act of faith, and what constitutes a saving look to Christ, followed by a consideration of the sort of fruit that saving faith leads to in a person's life. Then there is a presentation of what is meant by a faith that lasts. All of these are necessary aspects of saving faith according to the Bible. All of this is concluded with an eight page answer to the question "What Must I Do?" and a final note to the reader.
This booklet is the companion to Pursuing God: A Seeker's Guide. In that volume, the gospel is the primary focus. In this volume, assurance is in the cernter spot. However, both booklets address both issues, the difference is merely of emphasis.
This book is intended as an evangelistic tool, especially for nominal Christians. This book would be good to give to anyone you witness to, if they are genuinely willing to consider the message of Christ.
