What does genuine Christian living look like in the 21st century, and how can we be motivated to live it?
Jesus’ sermon in Luke 6, widely known as the Sermon on the Plain, starts like this:
“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.”
It continues by laying out the Lord’s vision statement, a manifesto, which goes beyond politics, culture and personality to show what the life of a genuine, ordinary Christian should look like.
It’s a life of very different values, of a different kind of love, of a deep integrity and of a joyful obedience. It's counterintuitive and countercultural, but Jesus promises that it will bring us a life of blessing: the best kind of life and a life that makes a difference.
Renowned Bible teacher Alistair Begg not only urges us to take up this challenge but shows us the kindness and compassion of the who is calling us to live like this. As we marvel at Jesus, we’ll see what a privilege it is to follow him as our King and be empowered to obey his teaching.
