William Perkins, The Princely Puritan

This delightful and insightful book is brought together by contributors with not merely a deep knowledge of the Puritan movement, but in sympathy with its movers and shakers. William Perkins is brought to life to be enjoyed, digested and reflected over for the
first time in many years. He is introduced as an ‘Architect’, but he is revealed as a ‘Builder’ and ‘Resident’ of the truth he held on to so tenaciously. It is a wonderful introduction to his works and his method as a preaching pastor, or pastoral preaching whichever is preferred is an example that could be easily adapted for the modern congregation. The book is easy to read, is packed with helpful sub-headings and useful footnotes. One of the many forgotten Puritans, Perkins would sit easily alongside Baxter, Owen and Goodwin. I hotly commend this timely biography about a great man that lived in an era of greatness. Rating 5.
