The Promise of the Future, says Sinclair Ferguson, introduces us to the full range of biblical teaching on eschatology (the study of the last things). It rightly stresses that...as Simon Peter pointed out on the Day of Pentecost, the resurrection of Christ and the gift of the Spirit mean that the future has invaded the present, so that we are slready living in the last days...I believe that you will find the study on which you are about to embark both intellectually satisfying and spiritually enriching.
Such a helpful book - highly recommended. Thoroughly biblical, and increased my hope in God's promises and Christ's return.
It's a great book for doctrine. A large chunk on the Millenium and defends amillennialism by fairly weighing it against other forms. It is a doctrine book so not heavy on pastorally caring for those who may struggle with annihilationism. The only other hesitancy is in his New Creation perspective, he adopts a neo-calvinist view which basically suggests cultural transformation now has eternal effects. For what I believe to be a more faithful biblical reading for New Creation, consider VanDrunen's "Living in God's Two Kingdoms". Overall, Venema is probably one of the easiest and insightful books I've read on Eschatology. Thorougly recommend it.
