Larry Crabb was clearly a compassionate brother, with an Augustinian bent. In this book, he intended and attempted to be Scripturally sound, stating an earnest trust and faith in God for genuine fulfillment. He offered deeper moral views than Burns & Beck (CBT), and provocatively filled in a number of pastoral gaps with mainline counseling practices that emphasize behavioral repentance over deeper matters of the heart. But overall, his apologetic is incomplete, confounding, and contradictory. I would only recommend this book for a deeper understanding and examples of complex integrationism, not as a source of Christ-centered soul care.
