I am always deeply impressed and edified by the writings of Charles Haddon Spurgeon and it was his analysis of Manton's works that drew me to investigate them. Spurgeon said his works contained "a mighty mountain of sound theology" and his sermons were "second to none" of his contemporaries. He went on to say, "Manton is not brilliant, but he is always clever; he is not oratorical, but he is powerful; he is not striking, but he is deep." I am a Psalm 119 freak, and I have not been disappointed by this exposition of Thomas Manton's. It is a real treasure, designed to stand the test of reading and rereading and rereading, beautifully re-printed and bound by Banner of Truth. I know I will continue to enjoy it for years to come. In terms of investment, you can't go wrong - if one reads it and applies its principles to one's life it is an eternal investment and I've yet to find better binders than Banner of Truth. Thank you, Reformers Bookshop, for making the writings of the Puritans available.
