‘Lord’ I said, ‘have I not made enough sacrifices already? I gave up my friends and family to come to Cambodia… Do you really mean for me to surrender everything?’
When Joelle Kenny was growing up, she was convinced that God would want nothing to do with her. After all, she didn't come from 'right sort of family’ or have a ‘squeaky-clean background’; she had only ever lived for herself, for the moment. Little did she know that God had other plans for her life – plans that would take her to an unexpected place, with people of an entirely different language and culture from her own.
Joelle's warm and honest account is the story of how the girl from the wrong sort of family got a fresh start in God's family, how a house of bad luck became a house of blessing, and how God can take even the messiest lives, and transform them into lives lived for him.
64 pages.
“To meet Joelle or to hear her speak is to be inspired. This book has the same impact. I cannot wait to give it to friends and family, Christian and non-Christian alike. It is magnificent.”
– William Taylor, Rector, St Helen’s Bishopsgate
“In a world with many celebrities but few heroines or heroes, this book gives a refreshing insight into the heart of someone willing to follow Christ wherever he leads to help others follow him too. Joelle's story is very honest and hugely encouraging. I'm praying this book would stir many people's hearts to be involved with what God is doing in gathering a people from every tongue and tribe and language and nation.”
- Robin Weekes, Minister, Emmanuel Church Wimbledon.
A wonderful book with such rich insights into the missionary world in Cambodia. I would especially recommend this book for any teens, as it is a very accessible, easy to read and short book.
This little book is a wonderful testimony of how God can move us to where He wants us to serve. Would love for it to have been a bit longer, but at the length it is I don't have issues giving it to a young teen to read. Short and engaging.
