Move beyond simple phonics to a gentle course that introduces important basics in grammar while encouraging creativity. They will make vital connections between the endearing images they see and the words they learn. Students will enjoy reading fun stories and completing activities in this full-color book.
They will begin to learn how to communicate with age-appropriate vocabulary words and very simple sentences build on and reinforce their understanding of the building blocks of grammar, vocabulary development, spelling, and connections that are at the heart of reading comprehension. Independent reading books and learning to master writing letters and small words are core to the course.
Written with a Charlotte Mason influence but designed for modern homeschoolers, students will enjoy poems and picture studies, as well as faith-growing verses to reinforce what they are learning. Activities include the structure of simple poems, Scripture passages, word rhymes, some basic language rules, creating a dictionary, easy narration, and critical thinking.
The course includes a scope and sequence, daily course calendar, assessments that can be used to assign grades, a recommended reading list, handwriting practice, and simple grammar sheets!
A helpful and detailed daily schedule:
Includes a variety of learning activities applied through reading, observation, copywork, picture study, simple grammar, spelling, select poems, and Bible verses.
A selection of additional learning resources in the back of the book, including practice sheets, to help them master basic concepts. Reviews are also incorporated throughout the course to help students understand and apply what they learn.
Required Course Materials: This course has an integrated reading component that uses Charlie and Trike in the Grand Canyon Adventure and Not Too Small at All. The Door of Salvation is an optional part of the course.
352 pages.
I had struggled to find a curriculum where I knew what was presented was appropriate for my child. This book delivers in spades, my daughter enjoys reading the books (currently 'Not Too Small at All') and I have noticed a huge improvement in her reading. My daughter is loving doing Language Lessons for a Living Education and even asks when she can do it.
We switched to this one halfway through our school year, and was so glad we did. It was simple yet still solid foundationaly, and did not feel we were compromising in any way. In fact it made lessons smoother and more fun, with more flexibility and time to talk about anything else that came up or questions, instead of feeling like I had to “focus and get through it”.
We have decided to continue with this series for our new year :)
