This selection exploits the very best of all hymnwriters in the Reformation tradition, drawing no hymns from Catholic, liberal or charismatic sources. A number of ‘lost’ but strongly doctrinal and experimental hymns have been restored to use, the hymnbook including more hymns on response to the Gospel, and communion with Christ than in other collections. A careful ratio is maintained between objective and subjective hymns.
817 hymns, 226 of which are psalm versions, or evangelical versions of psalms, reverently updated wherever necessary to eliminate archaic language, and maintaining pronouns such as ‘thee’ and ‘thou’ only in addressing God.
