Matt Fletcher
Biblical, Courageous, Compassionate

I know Sam Farag personally and can attest to his integrity, love for Christ, and commitment to God’s Word. This book reflects the man I know: thoroughly biblical, courageously truthful, and genuinely compassionate. Sam writes not merely to expose error, but to lovingly point people to Christ. The man and his message (both its content and tone) were also evident as he spoke at a Bible conference at our church on this very subject, which resulted in fruitful conversations afterwards, even with his opponents. For all these reasons, I heartily recommend this resource!

This book gave me the exact scriptural footing I needed to talk with my friends.

I picked up this book because of a friend that was talking about leaving our church to join Eastern Orthodoxy, and I wanted to understand why. As a layperson who knew nothing about the Orthodox tradition, I found Samuel Farag’s book to be the perfect guide. It is incredibly easy to read, uses everyday language, and never requires a theology degree to understand. Because Farag spent 32 years in an Orthodox church before becoming an evangelical, he writes with genuine kindness and a pastoral heart rather than launching a harsh attack.
The book’s biggest strength is how it constantly points readers back to the Bible. Farag clearly demonstrates that while the Orthodox Church claims it has never changed, many of its practices were actually added centuries after the apostles. Most importantly, he contrasts the Orthodox view of salvation with the comforting, biblical truth that we are saved by faith alone through the finished work of Jesus. This book gave me the exact scriptural footing I needed to talk with my friends about these important issues with confidence and love.
