The church used to be recognised as a force for good, but this is changing rapidly. Christians are now often seen as the bad guys, losing both respect and influence.
In our post-Christian culture, how do we offer the gospel to those around us who view it as not only wrong but possibly dangerous? And how do we ensure that the secular worldview does not entice us away with its constant barrage, online and elsewhere, of messages about self-determinism?
Author Stephen McAlpine offers an analysis of how our culture ended up this way and explains key points of tension between biblical Christianity and secular culture. Steve encourages Christians not to be ashamed of the gospel as it is more liberating, fulfilling and joyful than anything the world has to offer. He also offers strategies for coping in this world, with its opposing values, and for reaching out to others wisely with the truth.

This book contains an overview of the current situation we as Christians find ourselves in; in a hostile post-Christian society, not pre-Christian society. It provides good context to how things came to its current state, it reminds us that we as modern disciples of Christ are living in this world, but not being of it, and clarifies what this practically is to look like. It biblically suggests to us, the positioning we should take in response to the pressures the modern world may place on us, explains the vital role the local church plays in keeping defended against the world, and speaks of ways in which we are to faithfully live out our Christian faith, with mission and purpose in the context of our both our times, and of our specific country (Australia). All the while encouraging us with the hope of the world to come, the love God has for His children, and reminding us the victory that is already won.
And it is highly accessible, highly relatable, and easy to read. I recommend this book to all fellow Christians.
A very timely read, very well written. The era of TV evangelists and street corner preachers is gone. "The church" is seen as a den of hypocrites and paedophiles. How do get the gospel message to people who don't trust you? This book has some great ideas.
