Masculine Mandate | A book recommendation from Ryan Connellan

Transcript: Hey, it's Ryan Conan here from Emmanuel Baptist Church, and I want to talk to you today about a book that I found very helpful called 'The Masculine Mandate.' No, I'm not talking about the time you go out with all your buddies fishing - not that kind of mandate, but rather what is the requirement for us as Christian men to fulfill in our world.

The book was written by Richard Phillips and really is a calling to all men to fulfill God's purpose and plan for their lives. I think it's pretty safe to say that in our world today, there are a lot of men who feel quite lost or unsure as to what God's desires for them are in terms of their family, their Church, their work, etc. This book was really helpful to me to just kind of recenter my life on thinking about what God expects of me to do as a man.

It's divided up into two parts. First of all, it's understanding our mandate - that God has called all men to work and to cultivate the areas of life that God has given them to cultivate. The second part is how do we live out that mandate, and that is in regards to our family, our church, our children (if you have children), our friendships, and just what is our responsibility in society.

One of the things I also liked about this book is it's not too big either, so for all of us men who maybe aren't keen on reading too much, it's not too hard to digest. I would really encourage you to pick it up wherever you can - 'The Masculine Mandate' by Richard Phillips.
